[ Maybe he should, but Bucky's known him long enough to realize that it isn't how he's wired. Even if he can hear the desperation in that text, in the way he's asking him to leave him alone, Steve never could, and he tries to be quiet about it so he can figure out where he is. The cargo bay, after all, is huge, and it takes Steve at least ten minutes to pinpoint where the sound is coming from. He pauses short of the area, fingers curling loosely. ]

[ Bucky does know this, better than anyone else. He should have remembered it, when he issued his denials and told him to stay away. He can hear Steve draw close, and something inside him wants to be near -- and Bucky thinks of how repugnant that is; how Steve deserves so much better than what he's now become.
